I do have a few textile pieces, collected over the years ... and you can call them anything ... from shabby chic to rustic and a few even bohemian ... and I often get some eyes rolling about how I 'm going to use them ... :)
I'm not a style puritan ... jee ... that must be pretty evident by now ... and I get this high when I blend in elements of different style ... and so as I am perking up my nest these days ... I am going to be working with few of these ...
Here's a piece all Indians have loved on their Rajasthan trips and at all the handicraft stores ... its a a lot of old pieces embroidered together ...whats amazing is that ... I spread these pieces on my table to start working with them ... and I picked four similar looking ones ... How Ironic ... two of them are Indian and two from Pakistan ...
... you would never guess the difference ... the work is that similar in style and workmanship and beauty ... the difference being only political ...
... I'm adding kori shells at the edges ...
... to frame or not to frame ... the project continues ... I think I'll pop in at my framers and see what kind of a job he can do for me with these ... but I know I am looking forward to these on my walls ... :)
Have you ever tried a piece that makes you say ... all no-no and your heart kind of says ... why not ... well ! it very well may turn out to being your ... OH! MY GOSH ... I SO LOVE THIS PIECE ... ;)

Such a visually pleasing post! Wow... is all I can manage... while my eyes savour the rich ethnic taste of Rajasthan...
Hi Rajee,
I've been following your blog since a couple of months but this is the first time i have posted a comment. I'm a creative person too and seeing your pics I have a suggestion for you. Maybe instead of framing the embroidered piece, you could put some small cloth loops and slip in a golden brass rod at the top and bottom. I'm sure you'll get wonderful brass knobs for both ends of the rods. So you can hang it like a tapestry and display the texture as well, rather than hide it behind a glass frame. Hope you got it and like the idea. thanks for the post. I liked reading it.
What a lovely post Rajee!! You had me drooling over those lovely pieces of embroidery. Framed or unframed, these pieces are eye-candy material...
Hi Rajee,
I love to use textiles in my decor too. I do agree with Manisha that instead of framing, hanging on the wall might be a better option. Since you have many pieces you can change it with the season.I don't stick with one particular style. I incorporate all the things that I like in my house. I can't wait to see what you do with these pieces. They are beautiful textiles.
Oh gosh!! thats a lovely collection Rajee.. Keep it safe.. or I'll come get it from you!! I have a few similiar ones as well.. I dont know what they are called.. but I picked a few from jaipur... and a few from exhibitions.. My heart just doesnt listen to my wallet at times like these.. :-)
That looks so beautiful..
That looks so beautiful..
Simply beautiful..u r right, no trip to rajasthan is complete without shopping for the vibrant textiles.
While I am here, I would like to invite you to join in the September Blog Carnival hosted by The Keybunch. Will be glad if you can make it.
manisha has a point. the lustre of the texture will be lost when framed. may be you can put it on a canvas - just like a painting. Use a velcro
lovely textiles rajee
Brilliant stuff! Sorry, been busy picking out wood for the house. Got some really nice pieces from fabindia the other day, waiting for them to be delivered now. Will click and send pics once they bring up what I've ordered. So far, 2 sheesham coffee tables are on order, a sheesham bed side cabinet table, bunch of side tables to go around the couch, a low floor entertainment console and some wall hangings and lobby cabinets, all of sheesham, no particle board crap this time in the house.
Got some really nice lamps and wall light fittings too from the same place. Trying to make up my mind on a collapsible dining table made of sheesham wood (again). Will keep you posted.
Such Beautiful pieces of embriodery, the work is so intricate..am inclined on the idea of framing it :)
