Basics about wine ...


You are curious about wine … but not quite sure where to start … well here’s where to begin … know… what is wine. Simply put, wine is an alcohol…made from grapes. Honestly speaking… there’s so much that happens in between deciding the good regions to start vineyards…to the bottle you’ll buy, that …it’s an art…science and a labor of love.
All the times that you’ll hear people rambling away … about wine … well, no its not, all put on…it can be a passionate interest .The more you know about it the more you are drawn to it as an art…as a romance…
Wines are made from red grapes and white grapes, and to start with I’d like to introduce you to wines as red wine…white wine…rose wine…sparkling wine(Champagne would come in this category) and fortified wines.
Within each of these types there are different varieties of grapes .It is this different varieties that give every wine its unique character and flavor.These different varieties are called the varietal.
Let me tell you some of the major red and white wines …getting to know them you are already on a good start.

Red Wines….

Cabernet Sauvignon (Ka-ber-nay So-vee-nyon)
Merlot ( Mer - lo )
Zinfandel (Zin - fan -del)
Syrah ( Sah- ra or Shi-raz)
Pinot Noir ( Pee-no Nwar )
Sangiovese (San-gee-o-v-zee)
Barbera (Bar-bear-a)

White Wines …

Chardonnay … (Shar-doe-nay)
Sauvignon Blanc…(So-veen-yawn Blah)
Semillion … (Say-mee-yaw)
Muscat… (Moos-cat)
Pinot Grigio …(Pee-no-gree-zo)
Reisling(Rees-ling)
Gewurztraminer… (Gah-vurtz-tra-meener)
Knowing this you are all ready to go and pick up that bottle of wine you've been thinking of for all this time... trust your taste buds ... and you are on your way to discovering the romance of wine.

And to make it more interesting, its not just from grapes. I brew a real mean banana wine (my main claim to any culinary skill). It kicks like a mule ... but you pass out with a happy smile ! Next on my list is cashew wine from the cashew-apples.

hey neighbour... how about a girls night to wine and whine...and dance away... I like the sounds of that mean banana wine...hic...hic...hurray...
Woah...that fenny thing is potent... wonder what your cashew brew would be like... and lady ... I like that list of yours...whats next ... :D ;D

That would be fun! But, er... Navi Mumbai? ... will I need a passport? ;D
If I get round to making my cashew wine will you consent to being the official taster?
The list is really long and keeps getting longer. The only problem is getting down to actually doing the things on that list! Someday ... definitely!

Don't mind being the assitant as well... you got alcohol on your mind... I am coming over.
And yes Navi Mumbai...needs a passport... you need a medical certificate to travel and in a few good years you can come via a good international airline cause they'll have an international airport too... now tell me what are your travel plans like.
