Wow, this looks amazing Rajee and I adore all the colours. I have been madly collecting beautiful vintage Indian coats and long jackets for many years now and I wear them to cocktail parties. I love the fine details, the colours and the fabrics and I wish I could get more (in my size)here in Australia. I think I will have to come to India and do some shopping with you. Everyone always comments on these beautiful coats when I wear them.

Now I off to look up Lohri and see what this celebration is all about.

Happy Lohri Rajee,

xxxxxxx Coty,

Hi Shruti,
Lohri ... has so many believed reasons for celebrations ... that no one reason stands out ...but it believed to be the same as Pongal, Sankranti,Bihu(Bihar)and Bhogi(AP) starting with being a harvest festival,to the sun entering the month of Maaghi or makar Rashi(hindu calender) ... to celebrating Lohri the wife of Sant Kabir ... to a fabled story about a robinhood like hero who saved Hindu girls from slave trade, and arranged their marriages to settle them in life.He was called Dulla Bhatti ... and loads of other reasons from Hindu, mythology ... :)
BUt the true spectacle of this festival is in the rural countryside ... guess the pictures say that... :)

Hi Radhika,

Hi Coty,
I can imagine your love for them... the Indian embroideries and craftsmenship are really so beautiful that even as an India I can't seem to have enough of them ... the pictures you see are from the countryside of Punjab state.
The woman are wearing what we call the Kurta along with the traditional skirts called Ghagra's ... but for mostly the lower part of the dress is a salwar ... quite like the men wear (not in the cities though)... would love to have you over for a shopping spree ... don't worry about the size issue ... in India ... tailoring for traditional dresses is more prefered.
I too enjoy wearing coats ... western styled with Indian fabrics ... love love love them ...if ever you want let me know ... send me your size details ... will have it stitched for you ... ofcourse much easier doing it in Delhi ... :)

Happy Lohri dear Rajee!
I am dead serious about my offer and am unsuccessfully suppressing my excitement on hearing that you may soon be coming so near to saharanpur.
We had a fair degree of Lohri fun too. Saharanpur has a significant Punjabi crowd and that gives this place a better look than the other regions of U.P. But despite that it remains, as you rightly said...Dusty, crowded and polluted.
Hoping to see you soon!

Hi Doc @green thumb,
Lets see ... how loud can I scream yeeeeeeeeeepy .... you really are serious. Wow, once I settle the kids in at Gurgaon ... you are in trouble with me ... ;)
Oh! that description of Sahranpur, probably stands good for almost all cities these days ... with an allergic cough that won't go ... what do I tell you about Navi Mumbai ... and well, nothing diff. to expect in ol' Gurgaon... :)
But beauty lies in what the place offers ... and in that nothing to beat your city... :)
