Elements of a personal space ...

No matter the size ,of where you create your green patch ... it can go beyond ... just pots and plants ... to being a personal space ... with the type of plants you enjoy growing ... with accent pieces ... with the pots you pick ...
white ... is my favourite color ... when it comes to flowers ... and I love this lily against my urns ... which I had painted sand color a few years ago ...
with age the pots are getting a beautiful patina as the paint wears off... I spray my pots as well, along with the plants... everyday ... I love the mossy growth on the pots ... patina and texture :)
its tranquil under my chinese orange ... with filler plants ... the tiny daisies ... polka dot plants... its a beautiful mish-mash of all the tiny plants that would other wise cluter up the small space ... if I plant them in separate pots...
I love collecting stones ... they do find there place in my pots ...(if not on my coffee table) ...
... its as much fun collecting pots as it is collecting plants ... I have to admit ... I some times do traumatise my plants to a few transplants before I feel the pot is right :) ...

fairly new place, this balcony garden of mine ... I am still waiting for my plants to fill out the spaces ...

Flowers ... leaves ... moss ... stones ... water ... pots ... my best ingredients to a beautiful place ... a personal space ...

Traditional Indian ...Wooden Parantha Press ...

Here's another...beautiful piece ... from the traditional Indian kitchen ... I am not sure where I first saw it ... but I found myself so attracted to it ... another wooden tool . As traditional as it is and as age old the design looks... many Indian kitchens still find place for this. A handle to grip and a rounded bottom to help you press down on the paranthas, roti'sand chappati's (traditional Indian bread) ... it ages well ... being made of wood and the butter used to make the roti's and paranthas definitely keeps the wood moist and greased.

City bred, me... thought I had discovered an antique ... well antique in design it sure is ... but to my pleasent surprise ... shopping at my local grocery store... Hypercity ... there, I bump into shelves filled with them .It is so pleasing to see , while we find newer gadgets in the kitchen to catch up with our urban lifestyle ... there still is a need for some old tools of the trade.

For me this sure is another beautiful and cherished part of my kitchen collection. If you know the traditional name of this piece... do write in to share.I would love to hear from you.

Happy Holi ...with the flame of the forest...

Its Holi time in India ... and for me there is one flower that makes it ever so special ... in company of the flame of the forest... or palash ...as most of us would call it ... I grew up knowing about it as the Tesu ... some things are unexplainable and my love for this flower falls in that category ... drive around the dry and hot rural India in the summer and you are sure to know where the tesu grows ... see you there....................................

The images of the tesu make me sooo... nostalgic... I wish I could have clicked them myself ... guess it wasn't meant to be ... its Holi ... and I am far away from a tesu tree ... I had to say ...HAPPY HOLI ... to all my readers, with something very special to me ... thanks toptropicals.com

Collecting ...Whiteware ...

I have a thing for collecting white ware. My first buy were set of dinner plates, quarter plates and dessert bowls. And they were not bought …for the love of white ware…but simply because that is what I could afford at the store, as a newly wed. Soon came the tureens…the salad bowl…the jug…and the …and the …well I’m not sure when and where it turned from economical reason to a whim and fancy. But it has… and now I am always eyeing those white pieces.
Have to say…they always make the food look great. And I just don’t have to watch out for what color linen I pick up. The white ware goes with every color combination. Every time it works magic with all the different linen and table décor. Each piece may not be of the same style and design…but the color pulls them together. I used to be disappointed by what was available at the Indian stores… but with more designer boutique culture (no… not the mall culture)…there is a good selection of whiteware these days. I personally enjoyed going to Good earth stores in Delhi…in Pune an interesting store called Bougainvillea caught my fancy…now in Mumbai…I am out to explore … If this catches your fancy... a thing to remember is ... white ware doen't mean...white... it may vary in shades ... but that doesn't mean it isn't whiteware...
