Tablescape ... for a celebration ...

Draping a table ... is one of my favourite style ...have to say ...my fabric collection definitely comes in handy ...

... the universal magic of ... whiteware ... it fits right in with what ever the color you want to work with ... no wonder I love whiteware ... and 'am sure super partial towards it ... :)

... I had a beautiful matka silk yardage ... earth tone ... with a block print motifs ... that I decided to use here ...

... the glow of gold in the tablescape ... are accents I use very often ... you can even see them in my Diwali 2009 banner ... with a pink silk fabric ... what are they you may ask ... :) ??? ... well how about I let you guess ... I'll look forward to your guesses in my comment section ... and I'd love to share the story of these gold leaves ...

... the setting ... is off centred on my round dining table ...and anchored by the flower vase ... the pillar candles add the drama of candle light ( I love ... I love ... I love candle light) ... the gold leaf accents and the tealights are randomly scattered ... tucked in here and there are a few greens ...

... Oh! yes ... I had help ... help that couldn't quite decide what was more exciting ... lighting the candles or blowing them off ... ;)

... O.k heres a secret ... even if I have enough seating I love buffets ... I can go beserk with the table setting ...

... especially when I just drape the table with yardages ... I scrunch up the fabric add in the accents ... and just place in the bowls ...taureens ... plates and the rest of the table things ...

... earth ... gold ... and white ... I enjoyed doing this tablescape ... hope you enjoyed it too... and found some inspiration for all the festivities and celebrations getting lined up ... I'd love to hear what you felt ... joining in with me ... on my tablescape to celebrate ... :)

Anna - Pakshi ...

Here's something that one of my blog reader ... Iniyaazh ... shared with me, after reading the post ... Yet another one for the ... Abrakophiles ... collecting brass birds ...
I had never heard about this before ... and I loved it so much that I had to share it with all of you ... do read below , the comment Iniyaazh left me ...
Iniyaazh ...
"Lovely collection of traditional brass birds. Very intricate hand carvings.
The birds that look like peacock, I think they are not actually peacocks..The same bird sculptures can be found on the top crown of tall traditional lamps (kuthu vilakku) in South India.
They are known as anna-pakshi ... they are said to be mystical white coloured birds that live in heaven, known for their purity.. so pure are they that if you keep milk mixed with water, they can separate water from milk and drink only pure milk :-)
Not sure how true this is. Neverthless their structure is beautiful, plumes of a peacock and shape of a swan."

All afternoon I kept drooling over this picture ... and I have to say it has to be one of my fav. drawing rooms I ever saw. The white fireplace against warmth of the brown on the wall ... the white sofas ... the lighting ... I even love the Apothecary jars on the sofa table ...
It all seemed so lovely put together ,that I had to share with all my readers ... unfortunately I don't know the original source of the beautiful design. But hope you too enjoy the beauty of this room.

Yet another one for the ... Abrakophiles ... collecting brass birds ...

Its amazing what craftsmenship you'll find in the Indian brasswork ... interestingly here are some birds ... that I was very fascinated with ...

... some with very intricate work ... some part of traditional diyas (indian oil lamps) ... and some with no ornamentation at all ...

... this pigeaon was adorable ... the chest and the body very carefully crafted ...

... many of us are fascinated with the traditional diyas ... may be next time you may take a closer look at the birds crafted alongside ...

...the plume and the tail ... of this peacock was probably what caught my eye ... also interesting were the different pedestal styes for the birds are perched on ...

... this was not a great picture but I had to share it never the less ... unlike all the other birds ... this parrot was so devoid of all intricate carvings ... more realistic ... and yet very much Indian ...

... guess, with the festival season coming on in real soon ... the traditional craft is definately the flavour of the season ...

... well ,I for one always find beautiful treasures come pouring out ... come Diwali ... oh! all that brass sure makes the heart crave for Diwali to come sooner ...

I sure do hope you found something that intrigued you ... may be interested you a lil' bit ... may be got you nostalgic about old collections of mums' ... Do tell me what you thought of this collection of traditional Indian brass birds ... :)
