the bird paintings of Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya ...

We were at an art show ... a tribute to Rabindranath Tagore ... it showcased artists from the Bengal school / the Bengal style. It was here that while I was not intrigued by most of the art work ... this particular piece was very fascinating .Now believe me... I am not into collecting owl art (my brother is)... but I liked this work ... turns out it is by Shuvaprasanna Bhattacharya ...

... he is a senior artist from Kolkata ... and his works feature in almost all the major art galleries in India. He paints subjects realted to his native kolkata and these birds are part of a lovely series by him.

... he seems to be big time involved in the Bengal politics ... but I have to say I love his work as an artist too ... his pieces by no means are inexpensive ... be ready to shell out a lakh plus .. :):) ... for the acrylic on canvas ... though I have seen the ones on other mediums being a lil' less expensive ...

                                                                       www.artchill.com
... here is the artist himself with one of his work ... he is an artist who believes in the universal appeal of art ... not something bound down by regionalism or themes ... his bird s definately go by what he believes in...

mixed media on canvas available at www.saffronart.com
... he may be a man surrounded with controversies and politics ... but when you walk into an art gallerie ... his birds will make you stop and take notice ... Read a lovely article about him here to get to know more about the life ofthis great painter
Hope you enjoyed a bit of Toohoooot time ... with me getting to know the works of another acclaimed artist of India ...
